Turkey: Support to Basic Education Project
The Support to Basic Education project focuses on strengthening Turkey’s basic education sector through technical assistance and fellowship programmes.
 Project duration: 2003 to 2004
There are three main components to the Support to Basic Education project: management and organisation, teacher training and non-formal education.
Within these components the education system is being strengthened at national, provincial and local level. The inspection system is being revised, and head teachers and teachers are being trained.
The project has helped develop special measures to increase the participation of girls in basic education, to train adults through literacy programmes and to provide vocational programmes for street children. The project is being implemented by the Ministry of National Education in 12 provinces in Turkey.
