Social inclusion

Developing and implementing a social inclusion strategy continues to present a formidable challenge to Local Authorities.

Planning local service provision for the most vulnerable young people in the community is absolutely vital, but service activity must also be organised and delivered in an appropriate sequence that covers the whole range of children's services.

For example:

  • auditing met and unmet needs;
  • assessing pupil achievement;
  • forecasting demand for services;
  • securing political agreement about priorities;
  • identifying both the resources required and their appropriate distribution method.

Local Authorities, within the context of the children's services agenda, will aim to deliver greater social inclusion by:

  • improving life chances and combating disadvantage
  • tackling problems of local regeneration
  • fostering safe and stable communities for families and young people
  • promoting health and well-being
  • developing high quality access to service information.
