Building the political will for change

Sustainable education improvements are only likely to happen where there is real political will for change.

In many developing countries, education systems need radical reform to function well. This is only likely to happen where there is real appetite for change among senior politicians and decision makers. Many programme designs focus on technical solutions to a country’s education problems, but we know that these alone don’t always lead to sustainable gains.

While we cannot make policy decisions or enact reforms, we can engage with senior decision makers to make them catalysts for change, support them in following through on their decisions and help them ensure that the right incentives are in place so that those charged with implementing change are motivated and empowered throughout the process.
