Economic growth starts in the classroom
Years of a child’s education can be ‘lost’ if bad teaching goes undetected. At a national level, poor levels of education will hinder a country’s growth and development. Our consultants are helping Jamaica to make sweeping improvements to its school inspection system that will improve life chances for young people and boost the island’s economic prospects.
We developed a software portal for the NEI to schedule inspections, capture data in the field, and create and share reports. It enables inspectors to be matched to schools based on experience, geography, performance and availability. Inspectors use laptops/tablets to complete their inspections via Wi-Fi in the field or back at their hotel or home. Results are uploaded to the hub and quality assured online; management reports are automatically generated or can be created to target specific interest areas. The solution is also sustainable: we provided local staff to train the Ministry’s IT team to handle all system maintenance tasks and upgrades.
The Adoption Support Fund
The Adoption Support Fund was developed by the Department for Education in 2013 to provide additional financial support to adoptive families to access therapeutic services.
We were commissioned to develop and implement a prototype fund, which included the development on the online application tools and systems for distribution. We were subsequently successful in securing the national fund management role. This role also includes supporting local authorities. Over the last 2 years we have helped support over 3000 families across the country with over £30 million going to children and families.
