FAQs

Here are some of our most frequently asked questions. If you can't find the answer you're looking for, please contact 'Careers' on the website or on Twitter @MottMacCareers

Do I have to apply online?

Yes, the only way to apply for a position with us is online. We do not accept speculative applications via email and any that we do receive are not added on to the global database that our recruiters use to search suitable candidates.

Can I apply using a mobile device?

Yes we are happy to receive applications through mobile devices and we have optimized our site to allow this, including integrating it with LinkedIn and Google Drive. Please bear in mind that whilst every precaution is taken by Mott MacDonald to ensure that the integrity of the data is kept secure, Mott MacDonald cannot be held liable for the data being processed by Google Drive or any data breach caused by the data being routed via Google Drive. Your use of Google Drive is subject to your agreement to Google’s terms and conditions.

Why do I have to set up an account?

A registered account allows us to uniquely identify you and ensures that all of your personal information is protected. Your application details are saved for you to access later, you can view the current job of each application and if you apply for more than one role with us you do not have the start from scratch each time.

Do you keep my details on file? If so, for what purpose?

Yes we do, and we do this in line with our data protection policy which meets UK/EU Data Protection Law.

We keep details so we can contact you regarding future vacancies that we think maybe of interest. We also use certain information from applications for running reports. We will never use your personal data for any other purpose than recruitment within the Mott MacDonald Group.

What if I do not want my details held on your system?

If you do not wish us to retain your details please email dataprivacy@mottmac.com stating that you want us to remove your details. Please include your full name, and the email address you used to apply with, and if you have your candidate reference number to hand that is useful as well.

What happens if I submit my CV without applying for a specific position?

If you haven’t applied for a current vacancy your details will be submitted in to our database. It will not go directly to one of our recruiters; however, all recruiters regularly search our database for suitable candidates. This does sometimes mean it takes longer for us to contact you so it is recommended that you apply when a suitable vacancy becomes available. You can create an account with us and set up alerts so you are notified of new roles daily, weekly or monthly.

You say that I will be considered for other positions but is this really true?

Yes! Our recruiters carry out regular searches of our candidate database, and contact candidates that are relevant to live roles. In fact approximately 1 in 7 of our hires are from this source.

Can I apply for more than one vacancy?

Yes, although you should only apply to roles that match your skills and requirements. We do have a maximum number of vacancies you can apply for in a 12 month period, this is set at 12.

Can I contact the manager directly to discuss a vacancy?

On each job details page you can find the 'Recruiter contact' which should contain the name of someone in our recruitment or human resources team who can help you. If you have issues finding this information please contact us on the website or on Twitter @MottMacCareers.

I have not had an acknowledgement of my application, why?

If you've applied online for a role, you will receive an automatic confirmation email which includes your unique candidate reference number. If you have not received this email the most likely reason is that your email account has viewed it as SPAM/Junk so please check this folder to see if this is the case. If you would like further confirmation of whether we’ve received your application, you can login to your account through the site. In your account you can find details of all the applications we’ve had from you in the ‘Job submission status’ section. If the role you applied for it not showing you will need to reapply.

Roughly how long will it take to hear about the outcome of my application?

We aim to respond to all applications within 14 days of receipt, however, due to the nature of business (holidays, people travelling, project deliverables, etc.) this is not always possible so please bear with us if it does take a little longer. You can review the current status of your application at any time by logging into your account and clicking into application status.

Can I get feedback on my application?

Unfortunately due to the volume of applications we receive every day we are not able to provide bespoke feedback on individual applications. The key reasons why we do not proceed with applications are that your requirements (location, sector, start date) do not match our needs, or the priorities of the role in terms of technical skills and knowledge were not met or demonstrated sufficiently on the application.

To avoid the common reasons why we are unable to proceed with an application we suggest you take a look at our hint and tips flyer using the link below:

If you attend an interview with us and would like feedback, a member of the recruitment or human resources team will be able to provide this when requested.

Why can't I login to my account?

Check that you have entered the correct email address (the one you applied to us with) and password. If you’ve forgotten your password, please use the ‘Forgot your password?’ link on the sign in page. You will need to answer the security question you used when creating you account. We will then send you an email from us to reset your password.

If you still cannot login please email careerpoint@mottmac.com, (please note speculative CVs/applications sent to this email address cannot be accepted).

Does Mott MacDonald use social media as part of the screening/selection process?

The screening process focuses on assessing your CV and additional information you provide as part of your application, however, the recruiter may review your details on sites such as LinkedIn to get a fuller understanding of your background.

How do I use the search vacancies page?
